While living in Maryland, I met a guy at the store that I was working at as a teenager.  He introduced himself and started talking my ears off.  Later on, he asked me if I want to sell newspaper with him doing it part-time.  I was really reluctant as I am not a salesman. I went with him one night and after the door was slammed on my face by one angry man for disturbing their dinner - I gave it up.  Not for me.

Years later, I have moved to New York and found a job at a logistics firm.  It turned out that we have a branch office in Maryland so I requested a transfer.  Upon arrival at the office, one familiar face greeted me.  The same guy asking me to sell newspapers now works for the same company.  He told me how much he made selling newspapers but he had to give it up when he went to college.

Now he’s on a different path.  On the side, he sells neon signs to different stores locally.  He would go around on weekends and ask dry cleaners, restaurants, or grocery stores if they would want a neon light made for them to make their presence stand out.  He has a friend who makes the neon signs who can make it for cheap, he then marks it up with a good margin and sells it to stores.

When he left the company, he wanted to sell bottled water.  Our boss laughed so hard at the idea and told him that he will be back begging for his job.    The rest was history.

The lesson?  Always keep your mind at work, looking for ways to supplement your income.  There is definitely money to be made.   It could be blogging, it could be eBay - it could be bottled water.  The right stuff will come your way if you look hard enough.  Believe us.  It worked for us.
