ebay.JPGAs Netrepreneurs, you have to constantly keep your eye open regarding new possibilities. It would be nice if we could all get passive income from royalties and advertisements right? But that’s not the way it works - at least in the beginning. Just like any other occupation, you have to prove yourself first; then watch the money come in. You can’t demand a salary without your experience correct? Same with growing your online business.

I’ve done business before the internet even exploded. I sold men and women’s clothing door-to-door during my off hours. I found a wholesaler in New York that gave me the chance to start my business under consignment and it worked. He trusted me, I made sure he wasn’t disappointed and the business partnership was born. I did quite well in that business but I thought to myself, why can’t I not do this online? Why can’t I just list these clothes and sell them online and then ship it out?!

I opened an online website. Starting from scratch, I had to go and create it on Geocities. You may remember those funky web pages on Geocities? One of them was mine. ;) I tried to promote my products and visited every other site I could find to create traffic. The online business didn’t take off. Why? There is no traffic. It’s like opening a store in a small town somewhere, in the middle of the fields where no means of transportation exists to get to you. That’s what happened.

paypal.JPGYears passed, and like I said - always looking for opportunities. I met a love interest who’s interested in anything and everything ‘turtle’. Actually, he has a turtle ‘tatooed’ on his back. To impress him, I started looking for unique turtle figures anywhere I could find them. One friend suggested that I try eBay. I thought nothing of it - registered, bidded and won. It’s a turtle figurine made of Murano Glass. I was happy. But then, it clicked! Why can’t I sell on eBay? Lots of people do so many are probably making thousands of dollars from it otherwise, they will not be selling through that medium. eBay already has the traffic and I don’t have to start from scratch. They got the people looking for stuff - all I need to do is sell stuff.

I started with selling my old CDs (most were immaculately preserved), and DVDs. I would list them in the market price that I thought they should sell. Example: I bought it for 16.99USD, I’ve had it for X number of years, it should at least be worth 5.00USD. So I will start the price with 4.99USD. To my surprise; some of the CDs I owned & unknown to me - turned out to be collector’s items. One CD went as high as $150.00USD.

I knew then that I had a niche. A focus. I searched around for DVD and CD wholesalers and with a little bit of luck, I found one. The listings started and my business grew from there and became an eBay PowerSeller during the process. During my four years of selling on eBay, I learned so much and I want to share them with you. I will start the series on what to look for; dos and don’ts; what to sell; how to sell and why “It’s all in the description” is king.

I would touch on why I left eBay and opened my own online store and why it would be good for you to get into eBay today. So, do come back as we walk you through eBay and Paypal and what lies in store to opening up your online store.
